A Social Media Toolkit for Healthcare Practitioners

by Public Health Update August 6, 2021
written by Public Health Update

Overview

Ensuring communities have access to lifesaving public health information from trusted sources and are not misled by misinformation is essential to ending the COVID-19 pandemic.

This toolkit aims to provide healthcare workers with the tools, skills and content needed to effectively share authentic and reliable information online. Centered around three core vaccine confidence messages, Vaccine Safety, Vaccine Development and Vaccine Reducing Risk of Sickness; this toolkit sets out three approaches: creating your own posts, posting the images and videos provided in the toolkit, or resharing vaccine information from trusted sources.

This product contributes to WHO’s ongoing collaboration with the Government of the United Kingdom to raise awareness on and stop the spread of misinformation globally.

Ways

This toolkit lays out three ways in which you can help:

  • CREATING: Creating your own posts – video or images – that will engage your communities, using your tone of voice.
  • POSTING: Posting the images and videos that we have provided as part of this toolkit, along with captions which clearly communicate key vaccine messages.
  • RE-SHARING: Re-sharing vaccine information already disseminated from trusted social media sources to your networks.

Getting the message across in the most engaging way possible

  • Know your Audience
  • Be Accurate
  • Be yourself
  • Get Familiar with the Messaging
  • Speak to your Experiences

The World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is a global campaign to raise awareness and galvanise action on themes related to breastfeeding. Since 2016, WBW is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2018, a World Health Assembly resolution endorsed WBW as an important breastfeeding promotion strategy.

Chevening Scholarships: Fully-funded Scholarships for Master’s Course

by Public Health Update July 29, 2021
written by Public Health Update

Overview

Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. Whilst there is no ‘typical’ Chevening Scholar, we are looking for the kind of people who have the passion, ideas, and influence to provide the solutions and leadership needed to create a better future.

Because these scholarships are fully-funded (flights, accommodation, and course fees are all included), you are free to focus on achieving your professional goals and maximising the experience of a lifetime. You will live and study in the UK for a year, during which time you will develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK. On completing your studies, you will leave the UK equipped with the knowledge and networks necessary to bring your own ideas to life.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship you must:

  • Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country or territory.
  • Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended.
  • Have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university by the time you submit your application. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK but may be different depending on your course and university choice.
  • Have at least two years (equivalent to 2,800 hours) of work experience.
  • Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 15 July 2021.

You are not eligible for a Chevening Scholarship if you:

  • Hold British or dual British citizenship (unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong).
  • Hold refugee status in a non-Chevening eligible country. Applicants who are citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and who hold refugee status in a Chevening-eligible country are eligible for a scholarship.
  • Are an employee, a former employee, or relative* of an employee (since July 2018) of Her Majesty’s Government (including British embassies/high commissions; the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy; Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office), or a staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
  • Employees, former employees, or relatives* of an employee (since July 2018) of Chevening Partner organisations are eligible to apply, but cannot receive a Chevening Partner Award from the organisation from which they work, previously worked, or are affiliated with through relatives.
  • Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship.

Once submitted, applications undergo an electronic sift against our eligibility criteria. Any applications deemed ineligible will be removed from the selection process. Please see the list of common errors here. If you make these errors in your application form, your application will be ineligible. Please note that once your application has been submitted, it is not possible to change it retrospectively.

Eligible types of work experience

The types of work experience that are eligible for Chevening can include:

  • Full-time employment
  • Part-time employment
  • Voluntary work
  • Paid or unpaid internships

Work experience can be completed before, during, or after graduating from your undergraduate studies, however, any mandatory employment that counted towards your undergraduate or postgraduate course would not be eligible.

You do not need to meet the work experience requirement in one period of employment. Applicants can submit up to fifteen different employment periods in order to meet the requirement. If you have held more than fifteen positions then please enter the periods which make up the greatest number of hours worked.

Timeline

  • 3 AUGUST 2021: APPLICATIONS OPEN AT 12:00 BST
  • 2 NOVEMBER 2021: The deadline for applications is 2 November 2021 at 12:00 GMT (midday UK time)
  • EARLY TO MID-FEBRUARY 2022: APPLICANTS SHORTLISTED FOR INTERVIEWS
  • 28 FEBRUARY TO 29 APRIL 2022: INTERVIEWS TAKE PLACE
  • SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2022: 2022/2023 Chevening Scholars commence their studies in the UK, and enter into an international network that they’ll be a part of for the rest of their lives!

Calling for Creative, Bold, and Youth-friendly Campaign and Communications Experts!

by Public Health Update July 26, 2021
written by Public Health Update

Youth and non-youth from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America and the Caribbean are encouraged to apply.

A group of youth-led organizations – supported by FP2030 – is setting out to challenge the Sexual and Reproductive health

and Rights field (especially governments, iNGOs, and donors)

and take the movement for equitable partnerships with young people to the next level! And we need your expertise to make it happen!

Do you have relevant experience in developing global movement-builidng communications, campaigns for systems change (especially related to equity in the international development), and knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights donors and stakeholders? If so, you may just be the one we’re looking for!

We are hoping to inspire progress in the following areas:

  1. Implementation of equitable agreements and partnerships between youth, youth-led organizations, and other institutions, by adjusting subcontracts, memoranda of understanding, terms of reference, and ensuring fair compensation for work;
  2. Making resources more easily available by co-designing new funding mechanisms with young people and revising procurement policies and existing mechanisms;
  3. Facilitating organizational development, not just technical strengthening to strengthen youth-led organizations, networks, and movements based on their identified goals and needs and improve non-youth organizations and institutions’ ability to establish and sustain partnerships with young people.

Why do we need comms/campaign support? As a first step, we want to design a challenge for action in these areas. By the end, we want stakeholders to be able to demonstrate concrete change (big and small) in these areas.

What is the timeline? We want to start strategizing with you/your team in early August 2021 (we aim to have our first meeting with you in the second week of August) and aim to kick off the campaign/challenge starting in September 2021, going through March/April 2022.

What experience do you need?
