Overview
The 12th National Summit of Health and Population Scientists in Nepal concluded with the adoption of the Five-Point Declaration, reinforcing Nepal’s commitment to evidence-informed health policy and health system strengthening. Organized by the Nepal Health Research Council, the summit brought together researchers, policymakers, academicians, and development partners under the theme “Health Research Governance for Evidence-Informed Decision Making and Implementation in Nepal.”
The declaration emphasizes strengthening research governance, promoting the use of evidence in policymaking, and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders to improve health outcomes and build a more resilient health system in Nepal.
Summit Declaration 2026
- Strengthening and institutionalizing a comprehensive health research governance system that is transparent and accountable for effective stewardship of health research in Nepal.
- Advocating for bold priority investment in primary prevention and early risk reduction of NCDs using a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach.
- Developing and sustaining a centralized and secure national health data repository along with the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, big data, and digital health technologies underpinned by regulatory framework of research.
- Promoting social justice, One Health and climate resilient approach within health research governance system and its implementation.
- Advocating for sustainable financing and strengthening academia as well as industry partnership to ensure the effective implementation of evidence-informed policies and program.
