Province Health Directorate (HD) is the major technical and administrative unit of health in the province. Health Directorate ensures proper delivery of promotive, preventive and curative health services through different health institutions in the province.
Tasks of HD
- To determine requirement of manpower for health institutions in the province.
- To ensure supply of drugs, equipment, instruments and other materials at different health institutions in the province.
- To ensure effective implementation of public health programs in the province.
- To manage the immediate solution of problems arising from natural disasters and epidemics in the province at different levels.
- To foster coordination with external development partners for effective delivery of resources and health services in the province.

Functions
- Monitoring of district level services
- Coordination of other health care providers through mechanisms such as regional networks
- Support to public health camps
- Organisation of health emergency-related activities (such as disasters and epidemics)
- Limited involvement in staff transfers (up to Grade 6 between districts within the region) and staff appraisal processes
- Capacity enhancement of districts through mechanisms such as NHSSP.
- Approval of small private nursing homes/hospitals with a capacity of less than 50 beds.
