Call for Application! Epidemic Intelligence Service(EIS) Programme

Opportunity for Indian health professionals

National Centre for Disease Control (Directorate General of Health Services), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India is inviting applications for 2-Year India Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Programme in collaboration with the CDC, USA, aimed at preparing public health professionals in field epidemiology and skills in leadership at district, state and national levels.

The India Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) programme is a 2-year training in applied epidemiology run by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Delhi with the goal to strengthen public health system in India. It drives forward Hon’ble PM’s vision of Skill India. The programme is modelled after the EIS programme at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is implemented in collaboration with CDC.

The US CDC has been running the EIS Programme for more than 70 years to strengthen their public health system. India is the only country outside USA using the successful EIS brand.
The training imparts epidemiological investigation skills on live outbreaks, epidemiology data analysis and interpretation skills to medical doctors through an “apprentice model”. Trainees learn public health skills while providing epidemiological service to various public health departments (including National Health programmes) and complete 9 core activities of learnings. Senior public health professional work closely with EIS Trainees to help identify learning outcomes and archive these under close mentorship.
Candidates are doctors nominated by health departments in state and central government (or local government bodies) or medical professionals looking for a career in public health.

Candidates can apply to NCDC after the course announcement. Nominated candidates have to apply under intimation to their employer.
