Job Description

Position: Nutrition Officer

Background
:

USAID Integrated Nutrition’s primary goal is to improve the nutrition status of women, adolescents, and children in Nepal’s underserved and marginalized communities. The activity will tackle the direct and underlying determinants of malnutrition in Nepal while strengthening the national and local enabling environment to implement multisectoral nutrition programs through four synergistic intermediate results. Success will be measured by improvements in nutrition status indicators among women of reproductive age, adolescents, and children.


Position Overview
:

The Nutrition Officer will provide support in documenting and managing logistics (nutrition and health essential commodities) and analyzing data related to nutrition-specific programs. The position will also support the development of the Annual Work Plan and Budgets of the USAID Integrated Nutrition to align with the Nutrition Section priorities.


F
unctional Relationships:

Under the direct supervision of the Intermediate Result (IR) leads, the Nutrition Officer is responsible for documentation and managing logistics for the implementation of USAID Integrated Nutrition. This position will also work closely with the Nutrition Specialist.

Direct Line Supervision: Team lead – Integrated Nutrition

Inter-Line Supervision:

Collaboration with
• Internal: All concern Staff
• External: USAID, Governmental and non-governmental agencies at the province, districts, and local levels, program partners, and stakeholders

 

Description

 

Specific Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordination, Collaboration, and networking.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with government stakeholders and like minded organizations within the Nutrition Section of FWD / to implement nutrition programs effectively. 
  • Coordinate with all USAID Integrated Nutrition teams to create synergy between USAID Integrated Nutrition and Nutrition Section, FWD priorities.


Implementation Support
:

  • Provide support in preparing the annual work plan and budget for the nutrition programs . 
  • Provide support to the Nutrition Section in systematically documenting nutrition programs, i.e., event reports, meeting minutes, letters, notes (timpani), lessons learned, and success stories, and maintaining the filing system. 
  • Facilitate technical support to the Nutrition Section Team, FWD, to optimize HMIS data related to nutrition and health services and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
  •  Provide support to strengthen supply chain systems to ensure the availability of essential nutrition and health commodities, equipment, and tools year-round. In collaboration with the management division of DoHS, track the timely and adequate supply of these commodities to the provinces and local levels. 
  • Facilitate the regular updating and operation of the Digital Library and Mero Poshan App at FWD and with relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate/correspond with relevant organizations and stakeholders to ensure timely communication regarding events and meetings organized by the Nutrition Section, FWD / USAID integrated Nutrition, and ensure their participation in advance. 
  • Provide support and facilitate coordination between USAID Integrated Nutrition and government entities (province, Health Offices, municipalities) to design and implement annual work plans as needed.
  • Support coordination between USAID Integrated Nutrition and government entities (FWD, NHEICC) to develop Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials from a Gender and Social Inclusion (GSI) perspective.


USAID Integration Nutrition
:

  • Support regular and timely coordination and communication between USAID Integrated Nutrition and Nutrition Section/FWD. 
  • Support implementation of USAID Integration Nutrition committed activities at the federal level.
  • Assist in developing or revising essential nutrition and health-related policies, strategies, and guidelines as required and the Annual Budget and progress report of USAID Integrated Nutrition.
  • Perform USAID Integration Nutrition related functions as required.


Monitoring and Knowledge Management
:

  • Support analysis of IHMIS data on nutrition indicators in collaboration with the IHMIS and FWD regularly and share periodic reports/trends to the Nutrition section, FWD, and relevant organizations. 
  • Support for documentation of Nutrition-related activities and provide regularly updated reports on implementation status.


Representation
:

  • Represent Helen Keller and its values. Coordinate with other development organizations to reduce duplication and share learning.


Qualifications and Competencies
:


Educational Degree
:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in public health nutrition or health science relevant area. 

Experiences Years:

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in related field.
  • Experience working with the government (preferably with federal orprovince level.
  • Experience in nutrition-related programs.


Communication Skills
:

  • Good coordination and facilitation skills 
  • Good skills in documentation prefer both languages (Nepali & English) 
  • Good Computer skills – proficient in data analysis, reporting, presentations, and nutrition-related software.
