The Peter Salama Refugee MPH Scholarship in Humanitarian Health
The Center for Humanitarian Health announces the launch of a refugee scholarship program in honor of the late Dr. Peter Salama, who was a member of the Center’s Advisory Committee. Dr Salama was the Executive Director of WHO’s Division for Universal Health Coverage – Life Course. Before joining WHO in July 2016, Dr Salama was UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa.
The scholarship will support one individual who has been displaced due to the conflicts in Afghanistan, Myanmar, South Sudan, Syria, and Venezuela. These students will receive full tuition while pursuing a Master of Public Health degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Humanitarian Health Scholarship, applicants must also:
- Be from a low- or middle-income country (LMIC), as defined by the World Bank: https://data.worldbank.org/income-level/low-and-middle-income;
- Be able to fluently speak, read, and understand English in order to actively participate in a fast-paced English-only academic program;
- Have completed at least a bachelor’s degree, with a strong record of successful academic performance; and
- Be professionally involved in humanitarian health emergencies/disasters* for over two years, and plan to continue to work in these contexts after completion of the degree.
