Job Description

Position: Technical Specialist- Nutrition

The Technical Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing quality assurance and quality improvement strategies, conducting assessments and reviews, providing technical guidance to various stakeholders at the national and subnational level to enhance the delivery of life saving health services and achieve EpiC’s objectives within its nutrition portfolio, which focuses on pregnant and lactating women and children under five years of age. The Specialist will liaise with government and other stakeholders at the national and subnational level, local implementing partners (IPs), as well as FHI 360 technical focal points in the Nepal office, in the Asia Region, and at headquarters for technical-related matters.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute to technical strategies in at least one of the following areas: integrated management of acute malnutrition; community-based screening for acute malnutrition; private sector health facility capacity strengthening; public sector health facility capacity strengthening; sustaining life-saving services during health emergencies; quality improvement using Minimum Service Standards, etc.
  • Oversee the technical implementation of life-saving health interventions implemented through a network of IPs across Karnali, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces within area of technical expertise.
  • Liaise with FHI 360 headquarters and regional experts to ensure timely high-quality inputs.
  • Provide support to IPs in the development, implementation, and monitoring of annual work plans and budgets, and ensure the timely and thorough completion of all reports and documentation requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of program reports, monthly updates, other necessary technical and programmatic documents and documentation of successes, lessons learned, and good practice.
  • Analyze program data to identify potential areas for quality and program improvement.
  • Guide IPs to achieve all technical and reporting requirements for FHI 360, its donors, and the government.
  • Conduct data quality assessments and prepare reports in partnership with the strategic information team.
  • Perform other relevant duties assigned by supervisor, and the Country Representative.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in public health, nutrition, medicine, social science or behavioral science, or epidemiology and at least 3 years related experience or a bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience in development programming, especially, planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal supervision and manage high volume workflows with multiple tasks across several programmatic areas.
  • Experience in and understanding of the national nutrition program components and implementation requirements. 
  • Experience working as part of a diverse team to implement public health programs.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining positive working relationships and partnerships with consortium partners and major stakeholders.  
  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, working in the virtual work environment, and flexible, adaptive and open to managing time as needed for and demanded by the project and for working with different teams in different time zones as needed.   
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, coordination and collaboration, team building and management, and problem-solving skills.  
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.).

  • Ability to travel 20-30% outside Kathmandu. 
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
