HERD INTERNATIONAL is a dynamic national organization, established to promote evidence informed policies and practices for sustainable development in health, environment and social sectors to improve quality of life. Our working modality functions adopting 3E approaches of EFFICIENCY, EXECUTION and EMPOWERMENT. HERD INTERNATIONAL is conducting ”Diabetes MELA study”. In this regard, the organization is seeking a Maithili speaking Qualitative Researcher who will be expected to lead the formative and evaluative research components with major responsibilities of collecting qualitative data, facilitating co-ordination and assisting in analyzing data and writing report. S/He will report to the Senior Qualitative Officer.

Contract type: four months over the 12-month project duration (months 1 and 2 and months 11 and 12)

Duty station: Kathmandu with a substantial amount of travel to municipalities around Janakpurdham.

Purpose of the job

Qualitative Researcher will be expected to lead the formative and evaluative research components of this process and work with the JWDC in project implementation. S/He will report to the Senior Qualitative Officer. This position is offered for four months over the 12- month project duration (months 1 and 2 and months 11 and 12) and will be based in HERD INTERNATIONAL office in Thapathali, Kathmandu with a substantial amount of travel to municipalities around Janakpur.

Minimum Qualification and experience: 

  • Master’s degree  in Public health/social sciences or communication related field with at least 2 years of experience or
  • Bachelor degree in Public health/social sciences or communication related field with at least 3 years of experience in qualitative study

Languages: Excellent command of spoken and written Maithili, English and Nepali.
